He was first introduced to Jiu Jitsu in 2001 in Tucson, Arizona. After living and training in Oklahoma and Louisiana, Jaime his family moved to Friendswood, TX. This is where Jaime was first introduced to his current, Professor, mentor and friend, Vinicius “Draculino” Magalhaes. “I believe that training in BJJ is a life changing experience. No matter what your goals are, GBLC is committed to helping you reach them. Come and train in a professional, clean, safe environment where the student’s needs are the first concern. Our time-tested training methods are designed to bring out the best in students.”

Huge thanks to Carrol & Carlisle Realtor for the opportunity to be on the "Meet you Nieghbor" series.
Meet our newest neighbor - Jaime Gomez. He has a great story of leaving his career behind and following his passion to open his own martial arts school here in Lake Charles. It so much more than just learning jiujitsu techniques. I have to admit I am intimidated when watching my boys on the mat at Gracie Barra, but Jaime showed me in just a few minutes that his program is for everyone.
As always, a special thanks to Drew Miller for his mad videography skills.

Regional Director - Lake Charles | Moss Bluff, Cynthia Davis

Cynthia started her BJJ journey with the very first GBLC Women’s class in 2017. When she first started, she had a hard time finishing the warmup and couldn’t do a “shrimp.” She had to be pulled by her belt. Wow, those days are long gone. She now has become a disciplined, fit and a more confident person.
In her own words:
“Jiu Jitsu changed my life significantly. Let me start by saying, I was just another mom watching my girls do Jiu Jitsu. Coaching from the sidelines-and getting in trouble for it! Ha!
Making that choice to try out my first BJJ class was the most unsure decision I’d ever made. Little did I know, how it would impact my life, and yet not knowing how it would improve every aspect of it. Consistency, discipline, positive encouragement and motivation have played a pivotal role in my success. Teaching and Coaching have given me a sense of purpose. I want others to receive the benefits and empowerment it has done for me.” -Cynthia Davis
Cynthia is a motivated, driven and energetic coach who exemplifies the Jiu Jitsu lifestyle. She is a Certified ICP Purple Belt Instructor who leads and teaches the Women’s class and Assists with GBK and Juniors classes.

Tournament Coordinator, Carol Jo Shultz

Carol Jo started her Jiu Jitsu journey in 2020. She had sat on the bleachers for a year, watching her younger son train in GBK, before she, her husband and older son started training. Training was a way to stay physically active and something she could do with her family. She did not know she would gain a new Jiu jitsu family that she enjoys supporting as the Tournament Coordinator.
